State Utility, the contractor for the waterline project, has informed the Town that beginning Monday, January 19, crews will be completing service tie-ins to the new line for customers on W. Franklin Street. Each tie-in can result in service interruption of approximately 30 minutes for that customer. There is sometimes a bit of air/cloudiness after the connection is first made. Running an outside faucet for a few minutes will help clear air in the line.

N. Main Street in Mount Pleasant will reopen to through traffic the afternoon of Friday, October 17. Beginning the week of October 27, the waterline utility contractor will close W. Franklin Street (NC Hwy. 73) between Main Street and Halifax Street, as required by NCDOT. This section will be closed for approximately 8 weeks, while the waterline is installed. Access for local traffic and businesses in this section of W. Franklin Street will be maintained, but caution and patience will need to be exercised.

On Monday, September 15, the utility contractor will be performing an open cut across NC Highway 73 (Franklin Street) to continue the installation of the Main Street Waterline. The contractor has received approval from NCDOT for extended work hours that day in order to reduce the amount of time that the crew is working in the intersection. Traffic control will involve a shifting lane closure and flagging with assistance from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office. Please be mindful as you approach and travel through this work zone. Also, during the week of September 15, the line will cross the corner of the parking lot that serves Moose Pharmacy and Buddy’s Place. Unfortunately, this will necessitate the parking lot entrance from S. Main Street and most of the parking area to the side of Moose Pharmacy and the front of Buddy’s will be closed.

The time has arrived. On Monday, July 21, the Town’s water plant operations will shut down for approximately two months in order to perform the necessary maintenance and improvements to resolve issues with organics and disinfection byproducts. While the connection with Concord will be able to provide adequate water for regular usage, the cost to provide the water during this time period will be higher than the amount that it costs for the Town to produce water for its customers. Additionally, tank levels are being constantly monitored to ensure that adequate water is available for both usage and fire flow for both Concord and Mount Pleasant. The Town requests that water customers exercise voluntary conservation efforts and limit water usage to what is absolutely necessary during this time.
